Refona has almost 20 years of experience in breeding beneficials and this is reflected in our products.
Our story
Refona started in 2006 to combat blood mites in hobby animals, particularly aviary birds and chickens. This proved to be a great success; Refona soon became known for its patented release method for poultry houses (the Mite Booster) and the associated Dutchy's (Stratiolaelaps scimitus).
After this things went quickly. We received requests from the professional horticultural sector to also produce beneficials for them, which led us to grow on an increasingly larger scale and expand our product range to include other mite species and some insects. Refona has now grown into an important producer in biological pest control, both in the Netherlands and abroad. With our way of working and our product quality we make the difference that the sector is looking for.

Our breeding facility in Westerbork
The production facilities of Refona are hidden deep in the Dutch countryside. Here we produce at different locations, because you cannot simply breed all the species right next to each other. Our skilled staff works on achieving the highest quality every day.
We currently have 10 spacious climate-controlled rooms in which we breed our predatory mites and beneficial insects. In all these rooms together there is room for approximately 5,000 breeding tubs in which a total of 25,000 liters of material can be produced.
A large dishwasher is required to ensure that all these tubs are properly cleaned and disinfected after use. We certainly have that!
Transportation
In order to guarantee the quality of our products as best as possible, we prefer to deliver the products ourselves with our conditioned van. Our van normally drives through the Netherlands on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but we can also deliver on other days in consultation.
Outside the Netherlands, deliveries are arranged by parcel services with which we have good experiences.
What we stand for
Customer-oriented
As a production company, we are very customer-oriented. Do you want a different packaging or label, a different number of mites in the packaging or a different carrier material? Almost everything is possible in consultation.
Kwaliteit
We deliver what we promise. We work according to strict quality standards such as ISO9001 and GMP+. Our quality manager checks this daily by doing counts, checking the delivered batches and properly storing samples of the delivered batches. This way, after delivery, we can always see what has been deliverd and what the quality was.
Sustainable
Sustainable working and packaging has become indispensable in our current society. We want to be good to our earth and leave the traces we leave behind as small as possible. Packaging is an important point. We are trying to make plastic disappear further into the background and work with paper and cardboard as much as possible. We choose to have these products produced within Europe. We don't see dragging cardboard tubes halfway around the world before we can use them here as a good solution. Small steps where possible and big steps if possible, but always thoughtfully and with an eye for the environment!
