The familiar soil-dwelling predatory mite
Stratiolaelaps scimitus is the most well-known soil predatory mite and not without reason; it is an extremely effective combatant against various soil pests.
It is mainly used against fungus gnats, shore flies and thrips, but also has an effect against:
- Duponchelia
- Root aphid
- Straw mite and bulb mite
- Springtails
- Nematodes
- Blood mites in chickens and reptiles
- Varroa mite in bees

Technical information
Carrier
This product is supplied as default in a mix of peat and fine vermiculite.
The material is sieved so that it is also very suitable for distribution with a blower.
Other types of material are available upon request.
Life cycle
The complete life cycle of this species is less than two weeks at 25ºC.
Under favorable conditions, the adult mites can survive for several months.
This species survives mild winters and can survive on plant matter such as algae in the absence of suitable prey.
Storage
Live products should be released as soon as possible after receipt.
If this is not immediately possible, the product can be stored for a maximum of 3 days at a temperature of 10-15 degrees Celsius.
Store tubes horizontally.
Never place in direct sunlight.
Usage
The mites are active from 15ºC but are most effective between 25-30ºC
Rotate tubes before use.
In the greenhouse:
Spread evenly over the soil. The best results are achieved when the soil is moist and has a loose structure.
In the stable:
Scatter in piles in places where there are a lot of red mites (cracks/holes/corners where the animals sit at night).
